Aaron Morgan Brown Biography

Artist's Statement

My paintings are pictorial orchestrations — views of an alternate interior universe that are sewn together from daily observations, memories, impressions of the world at large, and my imagination. They are a prismatic lens through which I can re-view the world, and a collective transcription of what I encounter there.

The images that inform my work transcend context. They are like time travelers in the virtual spaces of the collective subconscious, and they carry associative baggage. I would like to suggest, in a purely visual sense, that images have lives of their own. If they happen to become part of a painting, they are not permanent fixtures in my mind – they are free agents. They can appear and disappear, migrate, learn new languages, transpose themselves. They respond to the same tidal forces of change that affect us all.
